A l’instar des autres capitales régionales du Mali, Bamako est confronté de sérieux problèmes liés à l’hygiène et à l’assainissement. Pour apporter sa contribution à la gestion de ces problématiques, l’association, « Ma commune est ma priorité » MACOP présidée par Nouhou Keïta a vu le jour. D’ores et déjà, les résultats sont probants.

Created in 2020, the association "My commune is my priority" MACOP aims to promote the well-being of Malians. This, through contributing to the promotion of the development of all communes. To do this, it works to improve the standard of living of the populations, develop, submit, implement, monitor and evaluate projects and programs in the areas of health promotion, education, hygiene, sanitation, development and biodiversity. Also, it aims to make more effective the use of research results in the social and environmental fields, increase cooperation with national and international public and private structures working for scientific, economic, health and socio-cultural promotion and protect the soil, air and water and repair damage caused by man, safeguard, protect and preserve the environment.
It should be noted that MACOP also intervenes in the following areas: education, the promotion of schooling for children, particularly girls, the construction of literacy centers and the rehabilitation of classrooms, women's literacy, the organization of vacation courses, the creation and monitoring of school canteens, the donation of school supplies to underprivileged children and the motivation of the best students. In addition, among other things, there is the strengthening of the capacities of community health structures (ASACO) and the technical staff of Community Health Centers (CSCOM), the establishment of pressure groups in the fight against malaria, the vaccination of children, the organization of periodic free consultation campaigns for children and the elderly, the establishment of an ambulance to ensure the transport of patients to the nearest health structures.
Already the fallout in Hamadallaye
In commune IV, in the Hamadallaye district of Bamako, the MACOP association launched “Operation Sanya” at the beginning of September 2025. The Association My Commune, My Property (MACOP) launched “Operation Sanya”, a citizen initiative aimed at improving the living environment of the population through the collection and transport of waste.
According to Sekou Keïta, Director General of MACOP, this operation involves going door-to-door to raise awareness among new members and collect garbage. "In Hamadallaye, we don't yet have garbage depots, and we transport the waste to the final depots. In the past, we have encountered problems, particularly in the treatment of gutters during the rainy season," he explained.
The main objective of this initiative, argue MACOP officials, is to contribute to community development and provide relief to residents through concrete civic actions. Therefore, Sekou Keïta reassures, all measures will be taken to ensure a lasting impact on the environment and public health.
